tiles

natural stone

The beauty of a natural stone floor is that no two are ever the same. Each has its own unique colour, veining and natural characteristics such as hardness and porosity. Each variant is fabricated with a particular type of surface finish: polished, honed, acid-washed, saw-cut refined, flamed, split-faced, tumbled and brushed.
If your goal is a flooring solution for the way you live that is truly unique, then natural stone with its one-of-a-kind personality is a solid choice.

granite

For durability, you can take granite for granted. Of all natural stone, granite is one of the hardest and densest, second only to diamond. In fact, granite is durable and wearable enough for almost any application you can think of. It's especially beautiful in entrance halls and bathrooms, or as an accent with other natural stones.

marble

Everyone marvels at the elegance of marble. It was used throughout the ancient world because it was soft enough to be worked with, but hard enough to endure the space of time. Marble comes in many different colour variations and usually displays a prominent veining pattern with luxurious swirls and patches of contrasting colour for which marble is known

travertine

Travertine shares some limestone characteristics such as being soft and porous. It is formed with many small cavities and holes that can be filled in with cement or resin, or left unfilled for a textured surface. The surface is then polished to a rough or highly polished finish. The filled-in areas remain dull, which creates an interesting contrast.

slate

SlateSlate is a highly versatile and water resistant stone that gives a natural, rustic appearance to any room. It can be used for interiors as well as exteriors, making it the perfect product to bring the outdoors inside your home. All slate has a natural "clefting" along the surface that gives this stone its unique textural, layered look. If your style is about texture, then slate is the perfect choice.

ceramic

Ceramic is dynamic! Its unique character, texture and nature-made material add energy, excitement and enchantment to any room. Its multitude of styles, shapes, patterns, colours and finishes can turn your home into an elegant, quiet and sedate haven, or a vibrant, emotional and provocative pad.

There are 3 types of ceramic tile: glazed, unglazed and porcelain.

glazed tiles

Glazed tiles are coated with glass-forming minerals and ceramic stains. Glazed tiles have different finishes that you should be aware of in order to make the right choice. High gloss finishes can be more slippery and scratches are more visible. Matt or textured finishes help with traction and dirt or scratches are less visible. Glazed tiles offer better stain and moisture resistance than unglazed tiles.

unglazed ceramic tiles

Unglazed ceramic tiles are very hard and dense. They come in various surface treatments and textures. Typically, these are installed outside your home as they do not offer much protection against stains compared to glazed ceramic tile. Unglazed tiles do have good slip resistance, however, please note that they do require sealing to help prevent staining.

porcelain tiles

Porcelain tiles are fired at a much higher temperature than regular ceramic tiles, which makes them much harder and denser than other tile products. Because of its highly durable make-up, porcelain is more resistant to scratches and can withstand temperature extremes. Because porcelain is non-porous, it's stain resistant and has very low water absorption, which makes it the ideal choice for interior and exterior applications. As porcelain's colour goes all the way through the tile, small scratches or chips are less noticeable.

benefits of ceramic tiles

  • low maintenance

sisal, hemp & coir

sisal

Sisal is made from a natural fibre derived from a cactus plant that is stronger and more durable than other natural fibres. The fibres are extracted by crushing the pulpy leaf and then washed, dried and graded before being spun into yarn.
Sisal is well known for the great durability of its yarns and does not build up static nor trap dust. Dry cleaning powder should be used for spot removal.
Sisal can be custom sized and trimmed with a wide variety of special bindings from leather to traditional tapestry – making it an ideal loose rug. Sisal is recommended for any area in your home excluding bathrooms and kitchens.

hemp

Hemp rugs and carpets are made from 100% imported Indian fabric.

Warm and cosy underfoot, our hemp rugs and carpets are rustic, charming and pure as the hemp itself.

coir

Coir is made out of coconut fibre and is one of the most versatile materials. The husks contain elastic and extremely strong fibres. These husks are harvested and soaked for many months, then beaten, washed and dried. Finally, the fibres are spun into yarn.

The natural colour of coir is golden to reddish brown, which makes it well suited to rustic environments. Coir fibre is 100 % organic, biodegradable, ethnic and hygienic. It is hard and strong, resistant to rot, moulds and moisture.

Coir is also a natural and decorative carpeting material which, unlike synthetic rugs and carpeting, keeps your feet warm in winter and cool in summer.
This very hardwearing floor covering can be fitted to any area of your home, including kitchens and bathrooms.

Our wide range of coir carpets and rugs are professionally fitted to 1 000g of underlay which is ISO 9 000 approved.

Coir carpeting comes in bouclé, panama, diamond and herringbone weaves.

We think you'll be amazed – maybe surprised – at how faithfully and beautifully laminate flooring resembles other premium flooring. Laminate flooring is a remarkably durable surface, stain resistant, and does not need to be varnished or waxed which makes for easy maintenance.

The elegant look of a hardwood floor can add warmth and character to any room. The natural characteristics of wood add depth and a visual appearance that many other types of floors try to duplicate. Rich, inviting hardwood floors are not only beautiful to live with, they can also add value to your home at re-sale time. The variety of hardwood types, options and applications offered by Florstore OnTrend are more diverse than ever.

resilient

Resilient floors, as the name implies, have some "give" or elasticity when you walk across them. seamless

A general definition of epoxy floors: Multiple epoxy layers placed on a floor surface regardless of the kind of epoxy resins applied, provided that total thickness of all layers applied is at least 2 mm. Other 'epoxy floors' consisting of less than three layers, the total thickness of the existing layers being less than 2mm might be called 'epoxy floor coatings'.

why choose epoxy?

  • Impact Resistant: Epoxy floors are generally used in areas of industry where goods are handled in specific spaces, such as production lines, warehouses, loading bays, and where compressive loads are generated by the movement of goods on trucks, pallets etc.
  • Slip Resistant: Pedestrian traffic areas require varying degrees of slip resistance, dependent on whether the environment is wet or dry.
  • Fire Resistant: Fire escape routes, explosive production and storage areas, underground car park decks.
  • Hygienic: Pharmaceutical, cosmetic, food, beverage, chemical and electronics industries have very demanding sanitary requirements. These industries are often required to be totally dust free with easily cleanable floors void of cracks or angled corners.
  • Chemical Resistant/Waterproof: Epoxy floor coverings provide an impermeable seal to protect both the concrete and the underlying ground water from the leakage of harmful liquid pollutants.
